Minnesotan Boy Becomes Inspiring Artist

Well it finally happened. My five year dream of studying one of the youngest storytelling mediums (film) has finally transpired. With my recent enrollment in Minnesota State University of Moorhead, I join a long list of filmmakers, classically trained via higher education institutions. Such examples include:

Steven Spielberg

Wow, prestigious. I got to work on my image if I'm going to be a success.

George Lucas

I know I'll grow a beard. Matt can help me with that.

Alf

That's way too much hair. Maybe their's a happy middle ground.

Kevin Sobrow (this guy actually went to my school)

Now that's the ticket.

Wish me luck.

P.S. I’m junior this year, earning a Bachlor of Arts degree. My major is in film studies with an Emphasis in Video Production and a minor in Mass Communication. .

Twins Game 08-15-2008

Greetings Friends!
On Friday the 15th of August, Heather and I joined Mitch, Mom & dad for the annual Twins Game! The Twins played the Seattle Mariners and won handily with the help of former Twin Carlos Silva pitching for the Mariners. It was a great game!

Birthday Bash

The fam went out for Grandma's birthday. Jeff, Chris, Heather, her friend Kent, Ginger, Mom, Kyndal, Baily and my Aunt Sheryl all got together.

Grandma was unavailable for a photo due to witness protection, but we had a artist sketch rendered.

We also took the time to play duck, duck, goose on the Country Kitchen grounds.

Baily won of course.

Fireworks!!!

Well, one tradition that never seizes to fail Winnebago is the wanton need to see stuff blow up. We had a good group with the admin's parents turning out.

We also had a Corvette on hand that Derek and Cory drove around in the Car Drive.

Baily waited in high anticipation for the fireworks.

And finally:

Sorry, no grand finale.

Cars, Food, Dummies?

The fair show held at Winnebago, MN municipal grounds, sponsored by local businesses, got off to a good start. The vehicles range from muscle cars:

30's style cars grandma tooled around in.

To a tank:

Not only ground vehicles were present, but a helicopter flyby.

A landing followed.

We got plenty of shots of Baily testing out the seats of the helo.

After that a dummy took the stage.

Sponsored by a local business, the ventriloquist and co entertained the crowd.

Next we stopped at the dunk tank.

Baily played some games and won awesome prizes.

Baily wasn't the only winner at the festivities. Cousin Shelby took home first in the tractor pull.

It was an eventful day that helped me forget about the omission of the town's long standing tradition of having a parade. Other holdouts (Matt) have yet to be convinced.

Human Hamster Expirement a Success

Well to kick off Motto Fest First National Bank of Winnebago, MN had their annual "coin dig". A free for all event allowing kids 12 and under to root through sawdust in search of precious coins.

Baily, champion fortune hunter, was there to participate. This was the first time she'd competed professionally for money.

The event started divided into subgroups from youngest to oldest.

Then it ramped up.

Finally cultivating into the 12 year olds using their finally tuned motor skills in search of treasure.

In the end everyone was allowed an unlimited time in the sand box with no age restraint. Baily's ability was put to the ultimate test with those outside her age. Luckily, she managed to adapt, and while the riches came slow, the search was worth the effort.

Mini Golf at the Science Museum of Minnesota

Heather and I met up with some friends and played through the Earthscapes Mini Golf course at the Science Museum of Minnesota in St Paul. I think this is designed to be educational, although I think all we learned was that we're not good at putting.

Minnehaha Falls

Saturday July 26th. Went to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis with Heather. There we saw the Minnehaha Falls. Here's Heather at the top of the falls.

And here's Heather at the bottom of the falls.

More Golf...

Hey everyone. I played golf again on Monday July 21st, this time at Goodrich Golf Course in Maplewood, MN. Didn't play very well and I was a long, hot afternoon, but had some fun. Here's me in action:

Wisconsin Dells Trip

Hey everyone. Time to update the ol' blog again. In late July, myself and some friends took off for a several-day trip to Wisconsin Dells, WI. Now we had planned this for a while, and got a lakeside resort package. Unfortunately, the lake disappeared!

Lake Delton was out of water, but the Wisconsin River still had boats about it.

Wisconsin Dells also has a glockenspiel where we watched an exciting story of the pied piper at 11:00 sharp.

While there, we played mini-golf at Pirate's Cove, and went to Noah's Ark waterpark. Also we saw these real ducks.

Also of note was that Sir Funk was in the area.

Tub Race successful despite setback

It has been 8 years since Winnebago, MN had their yearly bathtub race. For those not familiar, a bathtub race consists of four people pushing a modified three wheeled vehicle, fixed with a bathtub for the driver and steering column. The four man/woman teams careen through a street of cones, swerving in a figure eight pattern while onlookers toss water balloons, contributing to water filled tub.

All competitors are from local businesses, all vying for glorious prizes:

Our firing squad which consists of Derek, Baily and friends were there to make sure the teams had a fair challenge.

Baily was our resident munitions handler:

She also disposed of faulty ammo accordingly:

She proved to an expert marksmen:

It didn't end there. As the Precision Concrete team took flight, they burrowed down the streets at remarkable pace. The weight of vehicle and collective onslaught of the crowds' water balloons took its toll on the team. The result:

There was one injury; a wheelchair-bound onlooker who was promptly taken care of by emergency service personal on hand for the event.

Baily was saddened over the impedment of all the fun. Also, the lack of financing for balloons that got cut off due to her practice sessions which consisted of tossing them at the gutter.

Aunt Sue, a coordinator of the event, was upset along with the rest of the crowd.

But the spirit of the crowd wouldn't be deterred. Coordinators pushed back the crowd to the sidewalk and continued with the races.

Which eventually resulted in 1st place for team MET (Minnesota Electric Technology)!

Even with all her work and her company's win Sue couldn't stop the bereavement of the crowd (or her niece, Shelby, upfront).

It was a fun time that I hope gets repeated next year despite the accident.
